Samples of Editing Work

Thank you for the work, I was pleased that the whole piece of writing came out well. I hope that you found it satisfactory and suited to your purposes. I was supposed to send this a few days ago, but found that I had to edit and update my resume much more than I originally thought.

Educator and Language Consultant

I thought I would provide a little more information about myself as my profile on MYU isn’t quite as full as it could be. Over the years, I’ve worked with a number of clients as consulting editor or tutor (private teacher) – in some cases the roles changed – from major corporations in Taiwan, including WR Grace, Sony, HSBC, numerous university professors, ACER, Setabox, Baker & McKenzie, … to name the few that I can recall now.

As clients’ situations and needs vary, I’ve worked hard to attend to the writing demands. With considerable writing teaching under my belt from Chinese Culture University, National ChengChih University, and elsewhere, I find that I’m able to help writers by providing the external reader point of view (did the piece of writing meet the writer’s goals in content, style and context?) as well as give suitable writing tips and editing, in some cases many rereading several or more times.

Writer, Blogger and More

I’ve attached my, albeit incomplete, resume to this post, and links to some sample writing I’ve done over the past few years. I run a number of lesser and better sites to which I contribute writings regularly. They’re not all worthy of mention so I’ve tried to only include samples of writing that I have done that highlight the variety of topics and styles that I have done.

1. Educational Writing: TEACHERS’ HOMEPAGES AND TESOL Building Upon Preconceptions and Perceptions (Abstract)

This study examines the different perceptions between students and teachers of the purpose of ESL teachers’ homepages. It creates and administers a short survey of students’ expectations with regard to teachers’ homepages. The results are analyzed and the 10 top categories of interest to students are selected. These top 10 represent 65 percent of the total preferences expressed by the students. Then 201 websites, from a well-known ESL directory on the Internet, are examined to find out whether the webpages provide content and interaction that meet the expressed needs of students. Findings highlighted both how the nature and extent of the differences between expectations of teachers and their student visitors. In conclusion, recommendations for teachers are made for teachers wanting to develop their own website as well as for areas of further research.

2. Sales/Tech Writing: How Do You Buy an Asus Eee PC Netbook? #1 Battery Life Considerations (introduction)

So you want to buy an Asus Eee PC. There are more than 30 different models that have now been released, but you have had a look at all the great models available and you’ve struggled to make a choice. Battery life: you don’t know if the one you want is appropriate, or if a more expensive model is really worth it. This article aims to help you think a little more constructively about the battery life issue, and while you still will have to make your own decision, I hope that the criteria I outline will help you find the best model.

3. Instructional Writing: WordPress Techniques: Add an AStore to your site: It’s quick and easy (set of instructions)

I’ve been an affiliate of Amazon for quite some time, as some of you will know. There are a number of tools on the market for integrating Amazon products and data into your site. And there are quite a few plugins for WordPress, too, that do the same thing. But for various reasons, I don’t like to install plugins that do things that can be done otherwise without a plugin. I feel it slows the installation of WordPress down. There are quite a few store type applications and plugins, too.

If you feel that these samples don’t adequately describe what you are looking forward, don’t hesitate to contact me for more samples.

As you can see, I have a lot of experience in teaching writing in academic and business environments, worked in both environments editing a wide variety of reports, correspondence and projects for professionals, and I now have a range of articles, news, updates and books in my ‘repertoire’. I enjoy the challenge of editing work and am thrilled to be able to offer my services to the Taipei business community again. Anyway, I hope that this information helps you to understand my background and editing/writing capabilities more clearly.
